Birthday poem
“I love you,” says I,
and from the universe I hear nothing.
I turn to you
I say the same,
we go walking, 2 by 2,
I have so much more to say to you.
Through all of time,
there never was
a moment
just as this one was.
And all the same,
they’ll never be
this same moment
on repeat.
This too shall pass,
and when it does
the worms we’re buried under shrug.
I love you now
that’s all I’ll get
and with this morsel:
I’m content
